The theme of this year's art expo was "Asia Live: New Figure, New Art," presenting the new trends in art that have emerged from the Asian manga movement in the 21st century. Xu Zhengfu, the chairman of TAGA, served as the convener of the ART TAIPEI executive committee, with Shi Longsheng as the secretary-general. ART TAIPEI 2006 received support and co-organization from the Council for Cultural Affairs. With a total of 94 exhibitors representing 16 major cities worldwide, it marked the first time since the inception of the art expo by TAGA in 1992 that the fair surpassed over 90 exhibitors. Additionally, the inclusion of the "Electronic Art” sector titled “Ela-Asia,” was also an innovative step for the art fairs in the Asian region. The Asia Art Archive (AAA), Hong Kong’s pioneering institution dedicated to the collection of Asian contemporary art materials, collaborated with TAGA for the first time to jointly organize the inaugural "Asian Art Economy Forum in Taipei" prior to the opening of the fair. International scholars and experts were invited to share the latest information on the art market, marking the commencement of ART TAIPEI.
